Hi im Matt, im looking at getting my first ever 4x4 and like the toyota hilus surfs, im fine with automatic but dont mind manual either.
Now do i go for a second generation or third generation? I prefer the looks and spec of the later ones around 1998 2002 years and from what i have read they seem to be a start from scratch build rather than just based on the original hilus chassis.
Whats peoples opinions of which model to go for and age?

P.s it will not be used for off roading but the reason for purchasing is because we now live in Scotland and our new home has a very long old track driveway its not great in a car and is almost impossible in the winter as i found out this week.
We also like climbing and have alot of gear to chuck in the back and alot of the carparks and tracks to get to mountains are rough.
But it would also be used as a main car and do some motorway stuff too and general pottering about.

Thanks in advance Matt :-)
