toyota avensis 2.2 177bhp T4 D-cat 2009 updates

Hello Guys, ive been registered on this forum for some time but dont post much.

I use my car for dragging a braked trailer 90% of the time usually with a quad loaded up and chose the toyota as a good friend of mine is a tech for toyota plus i had a supra in the past which was bomb proof. The car ive been running up to now was a cheep toyota avensis 2.0 d4d 2003 110bhp ,i got the car from my father with 90k on the clock and wrote it off at 120k 2 weeks ago (see pics)

Moving on as the car was a write off ive just purchased a 2009 59 plate toyota avensis 2.2 177bhp D-cat T4 touring in black with 83k on the clock, tomorrow its in for a full toyota service and then its going for the tow bracket fitting so i can put it to work. for reference flat out it will do 137mph so far (on a private road) and its blown my mind how fast this thing is. i do like "sleeper" cars and this on is 100% that. im shocked more people dont have the 177? seems rare?. i am aware they suffer head gasket issues and im told this is due to cars being tickled around, carbon builds up on the pistons thus damaging the head. i drive cars hard so no chance this will have issues of that nature.

I wanted to document my purchase here as there seems to be a lack of info on the 177bhp model and i do push cars so will keep updates here in order to help other owners or potential buyers of the same model.

For reference ive already looked at taking it from 177bhp to 208bhp via a remap however in my own opinion i can tell the car is enough at 177bhp and i do fear issues at over 200bhp. I have owned a 2010 insignia 160bhp as standard and that car literally pulled itself to bits and i do feel this is what would happen to the avensis with over 200bhp. The company s who do the remaps say different but i cant seem to find any testimony on this exact model where someone re mapped it with success ie reliability over the following years.... anyone out there? if not im happy with the bhp currently.

With the weather conditions currently the traction light is coming on up to 3rd, 1st i just use when i need to and get into 2nd as fast as i can then onto full boost from there.

Ive also looked at k&n pannel filters but decided to stay standard as there are lots of bad reviews.

I am going to have the arm rest on the door and center console re trimmed to make it more comfy and i will look at lowering both the seats in the front (im 6.3 and sat too high) in my supra i lowered my seats and want to do the same with this? anyone done this?

Points to mention at this point is i can here a rattle from the front right which stops when i brake so i suspect its the carriers, £240 for both sides at toyota (i only us genuine parts) so my mechanic will see if he can fix these, there is also a rattle from the rear which i suspect is a droplink more will be revealed tomorrow.

Please see pics and ill keep updating

It was only offered on high spec models & was dropped in the UK from the T27 Avensis quite quickly - something like 2010?

It was only relatively recently (1-2 years) that the encryption on the Denso ECU was broken. Also, far less demand than for e.g. Ford, Vx, Vw etc. so even now not many companies do it.

Have you checked the slider pins?

Enjoy your "new to you" car.
