SatNav and other bits

Hi all,

I've been away from Toyota for a while, but I recalled my Avensis waaay back when as being so reliable I got myself a new (to me) Yaris, now the one I picked up (a 62 plate) has a nice and shiny touch screen.

I'm wondering though which version it will be and more importantly if theres a way to get SatNav on there thats not stupidly expensive - I already have a lifetime maps on a Garmin with traffic warnings, lane assist etc, so spending big just doesn't make sense, but that SatNav button not doing anything just bugs me :)

Also I went with a smaller car but sometimes go camping (hence the Zafia I used to own), but am thinking I could pick up a roof box or bag, but what would you all recomend that does the job without costing a mint?

Oh, I almost forgot the model!!  Its the 1.33 VVT-i TR 5dr Multidrive S

Cheers,

John

Think the head unit will be Toyota's Touch unit, rather than the Touch 2. The sat nav module can be fitted, but will probably be quite expensive from a Toyota dealer. Also updates may be more expensive than you think. Could try eBay for a second hand unit ....

Thanks, to be honest thats what I'd thought, probably cheaper to replace the whole unit than to buy the maps :)

Still maybe the roofbox etc won;t be too bad.

Tbh. Toyota's map prices have usually been amongst  the cheapest for car manufacturers built-in systems (albeit still a lot dearer than "free lifetime maps"*) & they have come down over the last year or 2 so it would certainly be worth checking out. A brand new unit from a dealer , however, is going to be expensive for what it is especially as it is now very old tech. but as Frosty says you may find one on eBay etc. for a fair price.

If you didn't already have a Garmin I would probably have recommended a largish screen smartphone running Google Maps, Waze etc.

* however, it is the manufacturers that decide what a products lifetime is ... e.g. https://www.tomtom.com/en_gb/obsolete-products/
