2005 1.4 D4D Corolla hatchback "Optitron" dashboard instrumentation issue

Recommended Posts

I have a 2005 Corolla D4D 1.4 with MMT.

This model has the "optitron " dashboard instrumentation.

This form of instrumentation lightning I think appeared on Lexus  2004 models possibly IS200 from 2004.

The irritating issue I have is that during bad weather DURING  the day when one switches on the sidelights, the dashboard instrumentation

dims to the degree that one can barely make out the display information like the speedometer or rev' counter especially if there is sunlight to one

side reflecting on the dashboard.

My question is this; does the dashboard have conventional bulbs that need changing ? or is the main illumination done perhaps with LEDs.

Is there a way of preventing the sidelights/main headlights from dimming the main dashboard instrumentation.

I would grateful for any guidance on this irritating issue.

The Corolla's instrument illumination was called Optitron. Brightness can be adjusted by turning the ignition switch to on, turn the sidelights on, press the trip meter button until a bank of blocks are shown. Press and hold the button and the instrument lighting will increase or decrease - the more blocks are shown, the brighter the lighting. From memory increasing the brightness will reduce the dimming effect.

My very grateful thanks to the person who answered my question.

Discovered the setting was almost the lowest setting since I got the car in 2005.

The setting I have it set to now is about 80 %, daytime visual is very much clearer and very happy

to be able to see the instrumentation detail in bright sunlight.

All this time I thought it was the bulbs/LEDs or poor design.

It continues to be at 95, 000 miles very reliable and in very good condition.

Personally, prefer it to the Auris as it is much quieter and refined.

Factory Soundproofing on my diesel is definitely makes a difference.

Two Auris petrol owners have quantified that as passengers.

The diesel can only be heard at idle.

Finally is there a way of amending the heading question from Lumintron to Optitron which I just realised is the correct terminology for the lighting?

It would facilitate anyone else looking for a similar solution under the correct description.
