MK1 Yaris immobiliser problem - easy fix?

Hi,

I have an intermittent problem starting the car where when I crank it - it will fire up for a couple of seconds and then 'cut out'. If I get out of the car, lock it and then open it again it will start up no problem.

This suggests to me a problem with the immobiliser and I only have access to the spare key.

Does anyone know what the cause of this is please and whether it's an easy fix?

Thanks

Just to follow up I got the RAC man to look at it up and a likely cause is the starter motor so I'll get that replaced.

Thanks for posting back with how you got on; I hope that fixes it!

If it runs for a couple of seconds, then I suggest it's NOT the starter motor. Seems to me it could be air in the fuel line. What's the engine?

Thanks it's the 1.0 - I uploaded a video of the problem . You can hear the starter motor struggling to disengage so it needs to be replaced anyway.

When the RAC chap arrived it was starting every time.
