Sometimes won't go into first

Hey all,

I've been finding the car sometimes just will not go into first gear when trying to move off at the lights.

Specifically, if the start-stop kicks in, I physically cannot push the gear lever into 1st after the engine restarts - It's almost like the dog clutch is exactly in the middle so the gear teeth won't slide down either side!

I've tried putting it back into neutral, releasing the clutch, then try to engage it again, still won't. I have found if I stick it in reverse or 3rd first and *then* into first I can, but I still have to put a lot more force than usual.

Normally the gear shifts have been really nice - Nicer than my old D4D even!

Is this a known thing with this gear box?! It's happens very rarely, probably because the Start-Stop triggers very rarely too, but when it does it is super annoying as it always catches me out and I waste a few seconds trying to jam it into 1st before remembering my reverse/3rd trick. Given some of the light signals round here only stay green for a few seconds this has gotten me some angry honks more than a few times!

(Oh, the car is a 2009 Mk2 Yaris 1.33 VVTi with the 6-speed manual gearbox! That would probably be useful information...)

Mmm... I must say it doesn't feel like the clutch isn't disengaging properly - None of the wooly feeling pedal and grinding I tend to associate with that, but the servicing is not far away so I'll get them to change the clutch fluid and see if that helps. Maybe the gearbox oil too!

I'm just glad I read about the put-it-in-3rd-then-back-into-1st trick or I'd be a lot worse off!
