Roof Rack

Just exchanged a 5 door Toyota Yaris after 3 years for a new Icon. I bought a Roof Rack and Thule for the previous vehicle and have just been informed by my local parts dept. that it is not compatible with the new car? It cost nearly £500 three years ago so I am disgusted about this. I was also told that Toyota do not make  a Roof Rack for the new model. Can this be right?

We have the new shape Yaris, and I bought a Roof Rack for it.

Read this thread.

At first, I thought it wouldn't fit, so took it back, and the technicians sort of agreed with me, then had a go at it.  The instructions and the pictures are wrong but it fits fine.  Toyota are being informed about the instructions.

Mick.

Don't forget the Yaris received a further facelift in 2017, which was a bit more extensive than the 2014 facelift.

Thank you. Your tag is appropriate, given how cold it is out there this morning!!

The Roof Rack for a 5 door Gen 3 Yaris has not changed see the attached which lists it as compatible with all three revisions: https://www.toyota-tech.eu/aimuploads/{A458EDFA-B599-23C0-7BD5-45A230E3B599}/Yaris_Roof Rack_PZ403_B2614GA_AIM_002_174_3.pdf

Be aware that those instructions aren't quite right.

The first thing the instructions tell you to do, is to check for a 5mm gap, but it shows it including the rubber door seal.  Not correct!  You have to pull the rubber away to check the gap.

Also, the rack feet aren't shown where they actually fit.  The drawing is wrong.  You need to look at the rubber feet, and you'll see that they fit further inboard, this means that the clamps are extended much further outwards.

I took ours back, and Snows Toyota Plymouth scratched their heads and it took four technicians to work it out.  The tech instructions they have there are even worse than the enclosed instructions.  They told me that they will be contacting Toyota HQ about it.

Now I know all about the issues, it all makes sense, but the instructions are VERY misleading.

Mick.
