Hi! I have Rav4 2006 y 2.2 d-cat and problem is that difficult  to start engine when out side is minus temperature.I am mechanic  and  examining all possible options. When the car has been started, it can be activated very easily throughout the day .Glow plugs is ok Battery fully charged.I tried even connect new appropriate Battery one morning its worked when was minus -10 but next day , -6 degree same problem.I take me in the car another Battery with wires and than looks like turn faster and engine is starting. Not any error code.I know how look when one of piezo injector leak and also hard to start but after some time appear error code about large leaking.Maybe somebody has same experience or know some hidden place where possible loose ground or supply conections.Or some sensor give wrong information and dont  allow to  start. Please dont say about service and all possible filter changing :)

Hi, my son had a similar problem on his Avensis with the same engine. It turned out to be dust from his very worn clutch was being blown into his starter motor and this caused it to turn over slightly slower. Had the clutch replaced and the starter motor and now all is fine. This was all done last week. Not sure if this will help you but just a thought. Good luck.

Hi,Dave Thank you for reply. One of last idea was starter fault because I connect multimeter and check how drop current in startup and it was about 5 volts and of course cant to activate all sensors.. Although the starter turned well.Today in the morning was approx  0 degree and started without problem. Perhaps there are more minuses the starter shaft bushings starts stuck. There is another idea because it's possible to disconnect system supply wire from Battery and connect separated to the other Battery. Just have to wait for bigger frost .One more time thanks.I am mechanic in dealership Doosan company in Latvia.

The problem is still topical. With hand dryer I every morning heat up under the hood engine different parts and than engine starts. I can not determine which particular place gets warm and is guilty .Any idea? Thanks

Today I went to the Toyota service and talked with a long time service mechanic about my problem and he explained everything about this kind of engine. He said that, however, the leakage test for this engine should not exceed 100 ml in a minute. Pressing 270 bar gives the command to board to start  injection function. In my case I again check injectors for leaking  and got that second injector is leaking without any error code for checking engine. I exchanged for another used injector and look like problem is prevented ....so easy.Yes, engine is good but injector problem is typical of this kind of engines.
