Hi can anybody help me I got a new model avensis 161 2.0 model

I find it very very bad on diesel

the most I've got was 42mpg

if anybody has the same car cud they tell me about it tks I fill it up 2 nites ago 240 miles I've done and there is just over a quarter of tank
