Check engine check 4wd flashing

Hi. We have an 06 rav 2.2 diesel. It randomly flashes up "check engine / check 4wd " in the display. It occasionally goes into limp mode but more often than not it doesnt.we Had it to the garage today and they cannot find anything wrong & just did what i normally do and disconnected Battery to reset it.

Has anybody experienced this and what was the outcome ?

Ive sorted it now. Egr was sooted up and the 2 of th 3 ports underneath it were blocked

I get this on 07 T180   

May be a coincidence but when I fill up with derv, the warning light disappears?  

Any thoughts / suggestions welcome 🙏🏻
