Hello All,

I'm a Expat living in Sicily and my local mechanic is doing my head in! I have a 2004 automatic Rav4 2.0L petrol engine with the above code.

I initially took it to a Toyota dealership, they kept it for ONE month and charged my 600 Euro s. 15KM the same problem occurred - traction control and check engine light came back on with high revs, around 2500rpm. The they told me it's the ECU and wanted 1,500 Euro's for a new one. I sent the ECU back to the UK and had it reflashed to to original  factory settings. The company in the UK told me the ECU wasn't the problem. They've just come back too me and suggested the following - change the vehicle speed sensor  and the other sensor for the shifting. Both are on the transmission, one at the back, the other at the front.

All the above started when I changed the Toyota radio for a new one (it wasn't working). So all this because of a radio!

Check engine light is on, and the traction light is on. Car revs high at times - can someone give me some help here please?

Ta, Pete.

I feel for you Pete... I just hope some bright Toyota spark can help you out on here.  All this digital crap is killing cars and ruining vehicle ownership these days.  My next car will be a series 1 Land Rover I think; without all this digital tosh!  Good luck with a fix...

Been watching Montalbarno (the Sicilian detective/travel logue show) on TV; what a beautiful place Sicily is...  one day I hope to visit :)
