I have been trying to figure which Yaris I have (sort of) inherited.  My Dad bought it brand new in 2010 but when I decoded the VIN it seems it was made in France, in 2005.  Seems a long time between manufacture and sale - is this normal?  I hope he got a good deal!

Something wrong with your information somewhere.

The second generation Yaris was introduced in 2006, and the 1.33 engine (1329cc 100bhp) with six speed gearbox was introduced in February 2009.

Prior to February 2009, the Yaris had the older 1.3 engine (86bhp)/five speed gearbox carried over from the first generation

Easy way to tell is what does it look like?

Have a look here... https://www.parkers.co.uk/toyota/yaris/specs/

Some systems will report the year of the first model (e.g. Yaris) rather than a specific model year of that model. It can be confusing.

I used this site:

https://www.vindecoderz.com/

Just put the VIN from our Fiat500 that we recently sold.  It was a November 2011 car.  We bought it before it's first MOT in October 2014. Your website says it's a 2007 car.

I put in the VIN from our Yaris Hybrid.  This car is a September 2014 car, again we bought it just before it's first MOT in August 2017.  Your website says it's a a 2005 car.

Sorry, but it doesn't work properly!
