just wondering what can be done with the seriuosly ugly front end of the kp61 (i think) starlet, dont get me wrong, i love my starlet but i want the front a bit cleaner.

also can anyone clarify the codes and differences of the different rwd starlets. i think the one with nice front lights is kp60, then mine with dodgey sidelights on the edge of the headlights-kp61 and thats all i know.

the 83-84 is kp60, look at your chassis no on the bulkhead it will have kp60 in the middle of it. to the front fit a nk2 mexico front splitter (fits perfectly) and a set of two up, twwo down 7 inch cibie oscars and it looks amazing

heres mine

looks quality, do the mk2 arches go on easy? do they run into the mk2 front spoiler? is it all fiberglass? i think thats what ill be doing! i wouldnt put the cibies on, ive never liked em, personal thing.

Yea, i think its either ya love em or ya hate em, i love em!! i think its an irish thing

yeah the arches fit on perfectly, the front arches i have dont run into the splitter as standard ya have to make a pice to mate them together. they really suit them i think..

whats the difference between the two starlets in the picture then, is it just age that gives them a different front end? are they both called kp60? i want the round light front end for mine, is that possible?

Posted

yeah all of ours are kp60, kp61 is efi. the 78 round lamp front will fit, but parts are vrtually impossible to find now. have u any pics of yours?

Posted

havnt got any pics but its completely standard(im not starting work on it till i finish my mk1 escort), 30,000 miles from new, very little rust and a 1.0 in it with most of the parts missing to sort out my mates one when we put a 1300 in it.

cool id say that was a rare find! i've just bought one from japan with 40,000miles and its immaculate!

i paid £300 for mine, must have been expensive importing one! my mate just sold a good Shell, little bit of rust on rear turrets, it had a strong 1300 in it which i fitted and he GAVE it away for £100!!! i was annoyed cos i spent a weekend putting the motor in and welding the diff.

wow they go for soo cheap over there, they're like gold dust over here here!! rough rusty 1litres are going for over 1000euro. it was expensive enough but its absolutely immaculate, and i mean nearly brand new!! 1983 SI (Sport Injection) 1300 efi, 5speed, A/C, Superlites and mexico front spoiler

Posted

i didnt realise they had a efi 1300? yeah they are cheap, sometimes. i paid £26 for a good 1300 motor too!

are you sticking with the 1300 or have you got plans?

Posted

ah thats being sold on, in my own starlet i've a 1.5 liteace engine. very quick but KENT CAMS are remaking one of their cams for it, i've a twin 45 webber inlet manifold coming from new zeland and a 4branch manifold  with a bit of head work sould be at least 130bhp mark if not more

Posted

Where abouts in NZ have you got your manifold coming from (if you don't mind me asking)-is from a motorsport company or private deal? Just asking because I'm going over there in January & was thinking of bringing one back with me for mine (5k project) any information would be a great help

that should be fun, 130bhp+less than 700 k= discreet rocket. i was gonna put a 1500 in mine till i finished my escort but the cheapest i found was £350 with 60,000 on it.
