Corolla Verso Diesel 2003 Workshop manual

Hi all.  Some advice needed.   Just bought above ,. been sold a pup, but that's life I suppose, by game is trials bikes.

The Verso runs great, but after about 30 mins ( did not happen on 15min  test run ! )  overheated and threw water out.   I know this is almost certainly head gasket problem and research since tends to say bit of a common problem.

Where can I get workshop manual to start work on removing head etc  ?  Went to normal Haynes site but noticed that for the manual they do the Verso is not covered ?   ( possibly the engine is but not rest ?)   Would appreciate advice, and also can someone confirm the head can come off with engine in situ ?

Would appreciate any advice

Hello John - welcome to Toyota Owners Club.

The 2002-03 Verso was only imported for a couple of years, before the different Turkish built Verso was introduced from March 2004. So it isn't surprising that Haynes don't do a manual.

Thanks for clearing that up, so no use looking for a manual for that year

Would any other model with 2.0  D4D engine  be same as far as head gasket change is concerned so I could just buy book for that [particular job and then timing belt marks etc would be shown.  Also, as previous can head be changed with motor still in car?

I guess that would be a 1CD-FTV. I don't think that head gaskets are a common fault on those (unlike the AD series).

Did you buy privately or from a trader? If you bought from a trader you should be covered under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, if you bought privately you'll struggle for recourse unless the seller plays nice.

Assuming it is a Corolla Verso with a 1CD-TV D4D engine, are you sure it's the headgasket and not e.g.  the watepump?

Not heard of the headgaskets going in these engines, but the water pumps are known to leak as they age.

They're a bit of a PITA to get out and you may as well do all the belts at the same time.

The engine is the same as used in the older Avensis and Corolla - If you can get a Haynes Manual for the last 2.0 Diesel Corolla (2005-ish...?) they used to make that should be similar enough to the Corolla Verso (Same engine, very similar innards) to be usable.

Thanks again for help.   I know it is D4D  but will check on rest of numbers you quote, and then take a stab at a Haynes book like you suggest.

I assumed head gasket as it was pressurising system, and could see no obvious loss of coolant from water pump, but again will check.

Browsing through Google  it did seem a lot of people were saying that with Avensis, the head could not be removed with engine still in car ? That was why I though a read of manual would be first  place to start

Thanks  Heidfirst, missed your email so responded out of synch.    Like Cyker you suggest it may not be head gasket ( so fingers crossed)

I bought it privately.  Not worried about recourse, I bought it and byer beware. Not even convinced the young lad was aware and may have just used it for school run etc. It goes for a good 15- 20 mins before gauge goes up.
