The new CVT gearbox sound really nice with a direct 1. gear. The car must feel so much nicer straigth of the line.

How ever, I don't like that the CVT belt and pulleys has been made smaller. One of the major disadvantages of the CVT, is that the belt can only transfer a certain amount of torque without slipping. That's the main reason why CVT like high revs instead of low revs with a lot of torque.

Yeah, but if you wanted a CVT automatic the HSD would be a far better car - If you have enough money to buy one new you surely could stump up the bit extra for a HSD! I just don't get why anyone would pick the CVT over the HSD... If you wanted a CVT it's because you want an automatic gearbox, and the HSD is the best autobox you can get!

Personally I think Toyota should abandon the  CVT completely and concentrate on making the HSD more affordable!

And also making the Yaris Hybrid-R a real car :naughty:

For some, the extra cost of the hybrid over the petrol manual or CVT may not make economic sense - eg. those with a lower than average annual mileage.

As you might know, I've made a series of videos showing how CVT act in real driving conditions. If you're so convinced that the HSD has a superior transmission, you're more than welcome to shoot a video and show how CVTs sucks. Until then, I'm happy and sure that I've made the right choice.

For the manual it's different - Some people prefer driving manuals over automatics, but for the CVT vs the HSD, they're both automatic and the difference in cost is like, a grand and a bit? If you're buying brand new you could even that out in haggling price alone!

Sorry mate, I didn't mean to make it sound like I was bashing your car - I'm sure it's great; The 1.2T is supposed to be a very nice engine - Certainly more lively than the 1.8 in the HSD, albeit at the cost of fuel economy!

For the hybrid it is more like £1400 more than the 1.2T CVT

Ooooh... I wonder what they will put that in...

The one really !Removed! thing about buying a new HSD now is the tax will be £140 instead of £0! :crybaby: I really hope that car manufacturers will stop caring about CO2 emissions in response and optimize their cars for performance and economy instead of fudging them just to get into certain CO2 tax brackets like they did with my car!

Heey, they could bring back the Compressor in an Auris! 1.8VVTi-L with a Supercharger! :naughty: Although that wouldn't be great for fuel economy by any stretch... But it would be a lot of fun if the Corolla Compressor was anything to go by
