Hi all,

Recently got a 2014 yaris hybrid, and have a few questions about the touch 2/nav.

For reference, here is current versions:

So I was wondering:

1. Can I update the software version - and how?

2. What do I get in the paid for map download that isn't in the free europe map?

Thanks all

Iirc v4.5.0L is the old menu style etc. & it got quite a major software revision in 2016 (v6.7.0L?). Also of course the mapping, POI etc. would be several years newer.

There is a chance that the upgrade to the newer menu system etc. might be free but if you want absolutely the latest maps available (which will still be 6 months+ old in real terms) you will have to pay.

From what I’ve read on Toyotas (rather confusing) pages is that software is not separate to maps, but part of the maps update :/

£109... eurgh!

It is a confusing site. To find out if you can get a free update, register your car on My-Toyota, choose your update, and proceed to the check out. It is at this point you find out if you pay or not, then it’s up to you. If it’s free, go for it, you will need a usb stick. And lots of patience.

Yes, but from what I remember the major update was free so you might be able to move to that version free. It would be newer than what you have but still 2 years old.

Toyota are now doing a 3 year Mapcare & connected services package for £199 (new cars now come with 3 year Mapcare for free) iirc which it strikes me is a better deal than £109 just for 1 year's maps.

Can't see the update on the e-store, only maps update with new software at £109 or the mapcare options.

Prior to the major interface update starting with version 6.7.0 when Toyota introduced 3 years free map care only cars with high grade Touch & Go got free updates, so a car with 4.5.0WL ( L = low grade ) would not qualify for free updates and you will have to pay for either a one off update or 3 years map care.

Thanks, that is what I suspected! I guess the question then becomes is it worth it?

Do you or anyone else know what I’d get (other than an interface-lift) that seems worth it?

Toyota generally release updates every 6 months and the latest software version 6.10.0## was released in Oct 2017 so you may want to wait if you going to buy a one off update.

Thanks!

I’ll hold off for now then until they release a new version. I think for most things it’ll be fine and always got Google maps for any new or obscure places. I just wish I could get the software update by itself as the 4.5 menu is a little clunky.
