Reverse in forward

Does anyone know if there is a speed that you can`t select reverse while going forward?

Friend asked me what happens if you accidentally hit reverse?

At about 3mph it will go in reverse(not harsh but not recommended)

I am not asking anyone to try it as damage may occur but watched a guy on you tube hit reverse at 70 and it just put the reversing camera on!

Wondered if anyone has actually done it accidentally!

Strictly O/T, and a long time ago, but I used to have a landlord who'd been a long distance trucker until the day when he engaged reverse while reaching for eighth gear. Gearbox exploded and came up through the floor of his cab. Took most of his left hand off, and quite a lot of his upper leg. Couldn't happen nowadays, of course?

Seriously, I prefer to think that some sort of a shear pin would fail. But I'm very intrigued by the thought that the electronics could also take over and block the shift before it happened. Most of the boxes I've dealt with have been strictly mechanical affairs.

Manual or automatic gearbox?

If it's the video I think you are referring to, that was an auto box (Ford Fusion, U.S. Focus). He also shifted to P without any apparent damage.

I certainly wouldn't attempt it with a manual box without coming to a complete stop first!
