My wifes new car

After discovering major issues with Fords ecoboost engines last year we decided to change both our Fords (my Focus was changed for an Auris Hybrid tourer last August) and today we have taken delivery of a 2016 Hybrid Yaris from Listers in Boston (we live in Sheffield).  I think we got a really good deal as the Yaris was priced at the trade in price suggested on Autotrader (paid 12,000 for it and we got an extra £400 on the trade in suggested for the Fiesta.) We searched nationwide and couldn't find a hybrid of that age at the price anywhere so pretty sure it was a good deal :)

Really pleased with it but prefer the gear selector on the Auris - why can't they standardise some of the controls across the ranges?

Anyway hopefully we will have these cars for a good few years.

I intend taking the service plan out as I did with the Auris and wondering if it's worth extending the warranty?  Thoughts on this would be appreciated

Last year most Toyota dealers were offering 2 years for the price of 1 on the Toyota extended warranty - so it may be worthwhile checking whether the offer is still available. Unlike new car warranties, extended warranties are not covered by Block Exemption, so servicing has to be carried out by Toyota dealers during the extended warranty.

Yes some dealers are offering 2 for 1 still, Listers were quoting £748 which I thought was a bit steep but Stephen Eagell are offering it at £354 and 0% finance

Whereas I am a strong believer in not running any modern common-rail turbodiesel out of warranty I am not convinced that it's cost-effective necessary for a Toyota petrol as they tend to be pretty reliable (although you will get Toyota's roadside assistance cover included).

& if you have a hybrid & you either get it serviced at a Toyota dealer or separately get a Hybrid Health Check then your drive Battery warranty will get extended & you will be informed of any issues in the Hybrid system.

Take the 2 year service plan (£299)and extend it later as required. Why worry about extended warranty, it comes with a 5 year one. yours should be OK until 2021 anyway.

Yes I have a service plan with my Auris which was discounted down slightly but also included free MOT's so will be doing that for the Yaris as well.

I only found out about the extended warranty recently and it did interest me especially when I found the 2 for 1 deals but will probably leave it a couple of years before deciding.

Someone mentioned the inverter in another thread as a really expensive job if it failed.

Thinking about it I think I'd be really unlucky (like a lottery win odds unlucky) if the inverters failed in both cars so probably better sticking with service plans and just putting some money on one side for any after warranty issues :lightbulb:

Could I ask about your problems with the eco-boost engine. My daughter is thinking about changing her yaris 1.0 for a fiesta 1.0 eco-boost or the 1.25. I`d prefer her to keep the yaris or she can have or auris hsd, but you know what kids are like.

Join this facebook group and show your daughter. https://www.facebook.com/groups/FordEcoboostNightmare/

If that doesn't put her off the Eco boost nothing will. Mine didn't fail but I decided not to chance it.  Engines are always on back order which should tell you something.  There are approaching 500 engine failures on the group and that is only those that know about the group.

The 1.25 engine isn't ecoboost and shouldn't be a problem.  The Fiesta was a great car but the engine issue was a killer and Ford Customer Service is abysmal.

With a Toyota extended warranty, Toyota Roadside Assistance comes as part of the warranty package for the duration of the extended warranty.  If one takes advantage of the 2 years for the price of 1 offer, Toyota Roadside Assistance will be for 2 years.

But note that if you take it out 6 months before the extended warranty starts, the roadside assistance will end 6 months before the warranty ends.

Very much doubt this is the case, as other members have taken out an extended warranty in advance previously, and not had this issue.

Similar to when one changes one's car and already have Toyota Roadside Assistance - one can add the balance of one's existing membership onto the membership that comes with the new car. I've done this twice. For example when I bought my current car in August 2016, my existing Toyota Roadside Assistance was due to expire the end of October - a quick phone call to Toyota Roadside Assistance, and they extended the membership by the outstanding balance (15 months membership rather than 12) and issued new cards.

Often dealers don't tell you this ...

Also for families with more than one Toyota, one may be able take advantage of the family discount when renewing Toyota Roadside Assistance for the second and subsequent Toyota/s (bringing the cost of renewal down to the current price of £61).

Tell that to the expiry date on my card! Perhaps I should have been told that the start date could be deferred? Anyway, the assistance was not expected by me and so is an (un-necessary) bonus.

If you had contacted Toyota Roadside Assistance, they would have deferred the start date to coincide with the extended warranty period. As I stated, dealers often don't inform customers of the flexibility .....

According to Toyota the extended warranty only covers manual gearboxes - " gearbox manual transmission" - from their what's covered. So by omission the c.v.t. (as fitted to hybrids) doesn't appear to be covered.

Good spot....but it surely must be a mistake?

If you look at the European warranty cover "

  • Transmission: mechanical transmission or automatic transmission including the electrical adjustment and distributor mechanism, as well as the torque converter, plus seals and sealing rings, if they are associated with the repair of the above-mentioned parts.

"

Looking at my documentation, the "Type of Warranty" is 'Manufacturer equivalent cover'. This shows up in the excluded part clause where only stuff like panels, paintwork, trim, etc., appear.
