Hi,

I have recently been having starting issues with my Avensis 2.2 D4D T180. I was getting P0093 on the fault code reader it’s now got so bad that I haven’t driven the car for nearly a month as once it is started it will only last for about 20 seconds before the revs drop off to 1100 even with the throttle depressed. When pressing the throttle I do see a momentary blip in revs, perhaps 100 revs for 1 second. Obviously I have the VSC and TRC  lights on. After doing a lot of research in this forum I believe I understand what issues cause this. So I have replaced the SCV with a part I bought from a very helpful diesel specialist (not sure if I am allowed to say who it is, mods please advise) who is 100 miles away from me. The part I replaces was already the modified SCV I think as it had the metal spacer that all the modified ones do. Having changed this the car still has the same issues. The ECU firmware edition is 305B3000, I’m trying to find out if that is updated enough to be able to rule out the ECU as the cause of my issues. I’m hoping someone like Devon Aygo can help!

Thanks.

P0093 is related to injector performance.

One or more have an electronic or mechanical fault.

Replace with 4 new injector and also get the newest update for the ECU then you are good to go.

Worst case if you not replace is a dead engine...

P0093 = Large fuel leak detected

P0093 (Fuel leaks in high-pressure areas):
This DTC indicates that fuel leaks exist in highly-pressurized areas in the common rail system. The ECM constantly monitors the internal fuel pressure of the common rail after the engine is started. The ECM sets this DTC if the drop in the internal fuel pressure is large when injecting the fuel.
In the common rail system, high-pressure fuel is always supplied to the high-pressure areas including the supply pump, common rail, injectors, and piping. The ECM adjusts the suction control valve opening angle to obtain the desired fuel pressure.
If this DTC is set, the ECM enters fail-safe mode. The fail-safe mode suspends both fuel injection and supply pump operation, and then stops the engine. Before stopping the engine, the ECM permits the vehicle to be driven for 1 minute. The fail-safe mode continues until the ignition switch is turned OFF.

Areas of possible issue are:

  1. Fuel line between supply pump and common rail
  2. Fuel line between common rail and each injector
  3. Supply pump
  4. Common rail
  5. Injectors
  6. Pressure limiter
  7. Open or short in EDU circuit (P0200 set simultaneously)
  8. Open or short in injector circuit
  9. EDU (P0200 set simultaneously)
  10. ECM

The latest software version is 305B3000

Thanks very much Devon Aygo. So I do have the latest software version, another possibility ticked off the list. I shall start going through the rest.

In Denmark there is a TSB on the problem.

It happens from time to time.

It tricker DTC P0093 because one or more of the injectors dont open/close correct.

Thanks,

I was thinking of doing an injector fuel return test to see if there are any obvious differences with individual injector fuel returns. Therefore singling out that one as a problem. Can anyone reccomend a place I can get my injectors refurbed if this is the issue?
