Alarm problems and questions

Hi,

The alarm in my car appears to be randomly going off. I say "appears" because there are some odd things about it. Firstly, the alarm sound is coming from the boot and is louder inside the car than outside. Secondly, there are no lights flashing on the car (I always though the indicators flashed when the alarm was going off). Thirdly, the alarm does not stop when I unlock the doors nor does it stop when I start the engine (it keeps sounding even though I'm driving the car!). Finally, there is a bit of a pattern to the alarm in that it sounds for about 30 seconds, stops for about 5 seconds, then starts up again. This cycle repeats for about 10 minutes and there is nothing I can do to stop it. I just have to wait for it to finish and then hope it doesn't start again. It has done this about four times in the last couple of days.

Does anyone know what might be happening? Is this even the car alarm - if so, why is it sounding in the boot and why no lights flashing? The car is a 2015 Avensis Tourer Icon D-2.0D

Thanks

Dave

Your profile says 2013 Avensis, your post says 2015 - which is it?

If it is a 2015, it will be within the new car warranty, so let a dealer sort it.

Sorry, it is 2013 - but a late 2013 so still covered by the 5 year warranty so I'll let the dealer take a look. I posted on here in case it is a known common fault.

have you had the car from new or did you buy it used?

If the latter i wonder if the previous owner had something fitted as it doesn't sound like the behaviour of the standard alarm system.

edit: do you have rear parking sensors? If so could water have got into the control box & be causing issues?

It wasn't new - about 6 months old and bought from the dealer so I suppose it could be an after market system but how/where it is fitted I have no idea!

I do have rear parking sensors - and the fact that the alarm sound is coming from inside the boot would tie in with this. The only thing that doesn't add up is that the sound is definitely an alarm warble like a house burglar alarm, and much louder, than the beeping that comes from the parking sensors.

Thanks

Dave
