(MMT) Does reinitialising the cutch actuator help dreaded flashing N problem?

Hello I am the unfortunate owner of a 07 Corolla Verso MMT.  My clutch actuator failed 2 years after buying the car from new. After much trouble with customer service, I was told me that the car was fitted with the wrong size actuator where it was made in Belgium.  The actuator was for a 1 litre Yaris...not for my 1.8 Verso. They fitted a new actuator of the right size, and my car limped along ever since this week. It has never run well, but got me from A to B. It now has 280k kms on it.

The flashing N appeared in stop and go traffic this week, and the car eventually could not go into gear.

I Took the car to Toyota Naas and they ran diagnostics.  They charged me €113 Euro to say that there were no error codes, and it would cost at least €500 in labor to take apart the clutch  and inspect it.

I refused of course.  I am trying to get it fixed however and have a question.  Could reinitialising the actuator help? I was thinking that with wear on the clutch, the actuator may have to remap the clutch. Has anyone tried this as a first port of call before paying to have clutch removed/replaced?

ps: I would not advise anyone to buy a Toyota or an MMT. I am just stuck with the car.

Welcome to Toyota Owners Club.

Both the Corolla Verso and the Verso were built in Turkey.

I don't know about reinitializing the actuator, but in the past we've had people power cycle the MMT and ECU computers by unplugging the Battery for a bit and supposedly it's helped cure MMT problems for a bit, but then the problem starts to come back after a while.

It may just be the clutch needs changing - The MMT is basically a manual with a computer controlled clutch and gears and the clutch will wear out just as it does on a manual.

The biggest annoyance is that there are not many people who can change an MMT clutch aside from Toyota, and fewer still who can properly reset and reinitialize the MMT computer after it's been changed, so you're mostly stuck with paying the high dealer prices for it I'm afraid.

I wonder if they didn't reprogram/init the MMT system when they fitted the actuator and now the MMT computer is confused...

Thanks for replying.  We tried to drive the car home and then the red oil light came on and a ticking sound came from the engine as if no oil was getting through. Found that the oil was down to the minimum.  Topped it up until it was in the middle and red light went away for a while.  The red light came back on again 8 km from home. We got to the house at least. Next day I started the car up. The engine sounded rough and it won't go into gear. The red oil light is on.

My mechanic hooked it up to his laptop and got a few codes. He is going to look into it but I think the car is finished.

I think it is a pity that the Toyota dealer didn't really do a thorough check. The oil must have been low when it was in the shop but they didn't check the levels. They just put it on a computer and charged me €113 to say they could do nothing for me. We wouldn't have attempted to drive it home if we knew there was an oil pressure problem.

If anyone has experienced anything similar with the oil light please let me know.
