Hello Friends,

My much loves Toyota Avenesis 2005 model 1.8 vvti petrol use to work amazing well until recently . Had car serviced in last service there was problem with 100amp fuse which was replaced, new Battery and it ran for 3-4 days after which on motorways it stopped , It was diagnosed as alternator not putting enough charge back in Battery . Got new alternator and then worked well for 3 weeks after recent snowy weather it does not start . I suspected some lights was on did a jump start did not work . After a while start checking  fuses open both fuse box did have a clue  . Gave another start with clutch pedal presses down it started worked for another day and then  again  to original problem .

please advise

Regards

Ashok

I will give you some probable causes, since I can only go by what you have stated and there is no 'clear' video of what is actually happening!

Toyota's usually suffer from ignition switch failure. You turn the key to start, but nothing happens. Not even a click. I had this with my old Avensis and replaced the switch from Toyota. It takes about 20 minutes to change, if you know what to do and had the right tools. The part should cost around £50.

When my car had the starting problem, I thought it was the Battery at first, but when playing with the key in the lock, it would burst to life after a few tries. The Battery was fine.
I also had starter problem where the starter would not engage properly to turn the engine over. Had the starter refurbished.

Make sure all connections are secure and good, checking the earth cables on the engine, body, alternator, and transmission and Battery
If you have anything in the OBD2 socket (bluetooth diagnostics, head up display, blackbox, etc), remove the device - you may need to inform insurance regarding the blackbox!
Try another key - you should have a spare.

Finally, see an auto electrician, which you may have already done.

can it be the wrong engine oil I used 15w-40 as shown in euro-car parts.  Read the manual says better to use  5w-40  for cold weather.

Also attached the video for better understanding

There is nothing pluged to OBD socket . Clueless now

Any idea how to check fuses.

Regards

Ashok

I have seen the video. Apart from the buzzing sound, what you showed is exactly what happens when the ignition switch fails. Where was the buzzing sound coming from. I also suspect the starter or a relay.

You need two people to test the starter motor, and it gives no error (on obd 2). Hitting it can give it one extra life sometimes. Then once tested you can rule it out.

This was the problem with mine so I changed it with a refurbished one, just cost £60 at a specialist starter motor garage.

Though I should take out my blue tooth obd reader as I am going on a 3 week holiday and Battery may be dead when I come back

...i hope you sort it out.
