Please help: Exactly the same issue (car stalled) I had two months ago happened again. What needs to be fixed in my Auris?

Hi all,

Few more questions.

How should I drive the car when going up hill or down hill? Especially if there is traffic?

For example let's say I am going on a downward sloped road and there is no need to press on the accelerator all the time. Is this good or bad? Or should I keep my foot on the accelerator for a steady speed?

I have noticed Auris in general struggles up-hill roads on acceleration, eventually it does get there. Should I continue driving in automatic mode in up-hill drive? Or should I switch to manual?

If I am in a traffic going upwards or downwards on a road again I should switch to Manual mode?

It won't do any harm whether you're on the accelerator or not.  Except in slow traffic where the earlier advice about going fast enough to let the clutch out still applies.

If you want to go faster up hills then either use the paddles (if yours has them) or switch to manual mode and chage down a gear or two.  Swap back to automatic mode (or manually change back up gears) when it suits you.

The 2011 Auris MMT we had wasn't very good at choosing appropriate gears, especially for hills around town.  I often used the paddles to over-ride automatic mode then let it go back to auto mode when it suited me.
