Hi all I recently bought a 2012 Yaris hybrid, I never driven hybrid before so you can imagine I don’t have any idea about hybrid , I would like to ask some questions if you could help me out that would be great

1) when I stop in traffic light my car cut off from ev to Petrol mode , is it normal ?

2) does the car need to be run bit then only drive in ev?

3) the Battery never full? I never see my Battery full.

4) any specific services do I need to do for hybrid?

Many thabks

Jin Hi, welcome to Hybrid world.

a) It's normal for the engine to cut in and out. It's controlled by the 'Electronic Brain'

b) Below 30 mph you can drive in EV as long as the Battery has capacity, then the engine will cut in to keep you going.

c) After first (new) use the Battery never shows full, usually 1 cell down. Normal.

d) If you're not using Toyota for servicing, you need a Battery health check annually (£45) Also at specified intervals the 'Electric Brain' needs coolant replacing. Everything else is standard.

Ours will do 40mph or even more perhaps on EV .................... and also much less.  It all depends on gradients both up and down, and acceleration demands.  Very gentle throttle will keep you in EV for the longest and the fastest, but it's very much limited by inclines.

The Battery won't show full unless you've come down a long hill with your foot off the throttle.  Ours often shows full when we get home because we live in a deep valley.

Mick.
