Shocks For Gti

I've just had my wheel's balanced and the guy in the garage said that my O/S rear shock is leaking.

:help:

Will that be an MOT failure? It's not till the middle of August!

:help:

I've looked on the Fensport website and they do Koni adjustable's and KYB Shocks.

As i'm not the richest bloke in the world, does anyone know if the KYB shocks are any good? They mention that the KYB ones can be either +20% or +30%, what does that mean? Which would be best suited to fast road driving?

:help:

Also TODA racing do some called Tokiko, anyone heard of these?? They also do Tein! Any good?

Cheers!

KYB make original equipment for Toyota so yes they are good. I've got Koni adjustable on the front and they are good too - don't know about the others personally but both are well thought of.

I replaced my rears with generic OEM equivalent as I didn't have the money to go coil-over route :(

You won't go wrong with Koni's and you won't find better than Tein (don't know if they are available for AE92's tho). If you can't afford the Koni's then you better be sitting down when they quote you for Tein's :D

all much of a muchness dude, i'm running +20% KYB's on mine the +20% part is 20% stiffer from stock, for less roll and better handling if driven correctly.

Would you recomend the +20% then instead of the +30%?

Cos I was thinking of going for the KYB +30%.

Do you think they would be too stiff, considering the roads aren't the smoothest in my area?

Also, my Spax springs will fit on em alright?

Cheers

cant see there being a prob with the spring fitment as the spring mounts are factory standard size.

As for the % its up to personal preference, I'm glad i stopped at 20% to be honest. but i have 40 profile tyres with hard walls..... its all give and take and personal pref.

I have KYB +30% dampers and 40 profile tyres on 17's. The handling is honestly amazing, but true to say not the most comfortable for long journeys/bumpy roads. I agree with Unity John, all down to preference I guess.

I tried custom spec springs made to order by Fensport (think 'bout +30% too, with the +30% dampers) and it was too much, especially in the wet where it made the 'rolla much more nervous and less driftable.

At the time it was money which forced the KYB over Koni. But I would only change now for platforms!

I think I'll go for the +20's. The roads round my area are like the surface of the moon.

Money is an issue, as I've just ordered some Brembo discs and Mintex pads, so Koni's are out of the question as I will have to pay to get them fitted as well.
