DPF Issue Auris

Hi All , I have a 2014 Auris estate 1.4 Diesel...The Engine light has come on. Got it checked by a mechanic who said it's the DPF and advised to run it hard on the motorway.

(I've noticed much lower MPG and the start stop doesnt work since the light has come on)

I also bought a few bottles of Wynn's DPF cleaner and have tried to do the regen on the motorway but the light is still on.

I have also read online that for the regen to occur, the EML light shouldn't be on? Is this true because if it is then I've just been wasting my time trying to get the regen to occur on the motorway.

Also, I'm not sure if the dash has a DPF light but if it does, why hasn't that come on instead of the engine light.
