:bookworm: i am still not convinced it is just the bulb,engine making noises in 4th &5th gear just a niggling noise but i know something,s not right ,any ideas ???????

Try and describe the noise Roy, and also how the car feels. It will all help.

Or try this site, I found it saved me a bucket load of cash in the past when I had a Renault, the site can be tricky logging on and navigating at first but its well worth it.

HI DAN

THE NOISE SOUNDS LIKE A RAPID PPPPPPPPP SOUND NOT LIKE TAPPETS BUT SIMILAR BUT ONLY IN 5TH GEAR ,I LOOKED BACK IN THE TOYOTA AVENSIS QUESTIONS AND IN 2002 SOMEONE EXPLAINES HOW THE ECONOMETER DRIVE WORKS AT LOW REVS THE INJECTERS SEND THE THE FUEL IN A SWIRL AND YOU PRESS THE ACCELERATOR FURTHER IT GOES TO A STRAIGHT JET OF FUEL THATS WHEN YOU FEEL A KICK IN THE ENGINE AND GET MORE POWER ,SO I THINK I HAVE GOT DIRTY INJECTORS OR THE CARB WORKS ON A VACCUM PRESSURE AND THIS IS BLOCKED THATS WHY ITS ON AND MAKING THIS NOISE ????I WILL PUT SOME INJECTOR CLEANER AND SEE HOW IT GOES THEN SOME NEW SPARK PLUGS£ 30.00 A SET NOT BAD
