MOT Advisories question

Hello

New Auris owner and just wanted to get some advice here on a couple of points I'm slightly worried about. I havent owned a car before so apologies if I'm worried for nothing - i hope that is the case.

The MOT history of the car shows a regular MOT with consistent passes, although the following advisory items were present in the last one.

  • Nearside Front Lower Anti-roll bar ball joint dust cover deteriorated, but preventing the ingress of dirt (2.4.G.2)
  • Offside Front Lower Anti-roll bar ball joint dust cover deteriorated, but preventing the ingress of dirt (2.4.G.2)
  • centre exhaust bracket has broken away.

From googling around, the first two items seem less worrying as its just a cover that deteriorates, but the 3rd item does worry me as looking through some of the forums, a full correction of the bracket seems to cost over £1000!

The car was bought as Approved Used Toyota and is still well under warranty so im hoping this can be addressed by that. Being a first time carbuyer, i went for an approved used precisely because i wanted to trust the state of the car without knowing that much about cars.

Can someone shed some light on whether the issue is a major one, likely to cost a lot, and what their experience is with toyota used warranties for this sort of thing?

thanks and apologies if ive missed a thread that asks exactly this!

Hi Anuraag.

If the car is still under Toyota warranty I suggest you take it to a Toyota dealership asap and ask them if the repairs needed will be done for free? Your car is 8 years old so I am uncertain if the car is still warranted by Toyota themselves but of course it costs nothing to ask them.

Mike.

It could have been fixed. Go back to your dealer and have them check .

Due to age of the car, unless you have some form of extra warranty in place that covers the items mentioned, I would go to an independant garage with welding equipement and get the bracket welded back. It depends on bad the damage is and if the bracket broke off the underside of the body or part of the exhaust.

If the bracket can be welded back, it probably be stronger than before, and far cheaper than the £1000 you mention.

This. If it hasn't you have good rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

I would also ask about the ball joint dust covers.
