Hi,

Attempted to see why the rear exhaust heat shield has dropped on to the exhaust and the mounting hole has rusted through, infact most ofnthe shield you can poke your finger through.

Bodges for now using tie wraps but ideally need to sort one soon. Toyota parts dept helpful to close at 12:30 on a Saturday, no chance of finding one at a motor factors. Either dealer or scrapper.

Does anyone here work at a dealer and can advise a rough price for one of these. It's the one that shields the fuel tank. D4D 2.0 07 plate Corolla

Thanks in advance.

Could send a personal message to Parts-King enquiring about cost. Will need to include details of car - reg.no as a minimum.

Does your profile need updating to include the Corolla.

Had a reply from Parts King with a price. Advised that I'm looking up a salvage part that seems to be in solid condition but will come back to him if the other part isn't as described.

Its a part others  may  need, can you say what the price was ?

£160, I picked up a salvage part up for £20 yesterday. Its seen better days but better than the one that is coming off. A gentle rub down and hammerite should see the car out.

Just thought I would l close this thread. Thanks to Part-King for the price and attached some before/after photos of the salvage part for £20 after
£10 worth of rust treatment and paint.

Hi,

Looks good, might have to look at mine and see if it needs a lick of paint before it drops off !

What paint / rust remover did you use   ?

Posted

My mechanic prepared the part and actually no rust remover was used, just a good coating of Motil Heat Resistant Lacquer 800.

An hour spent replacing the shield and happy with how it looks for a cheap fix. Had to drop the back box off both hangers to get the shield in place and put some washers to spread the clamping force to the body. Tidies up the underneath a bit.

Looks good !

Also looks very clean under there  ,  even the inside of the wheel rim looks sparkly clean, wish mine were !  are they new ?  could do with some new ones as my originals are becoming very blistered /corroded around  the center nuts.

Thanks, no special treatment and original wheels. I haven't cleaned in there unless my mechanic has given a quick rag over as the rears have been off a couple of times in the last month for brake work.

All 4 wheels are also blistering around the centre caps although from a distance look presentable. Me personally, I'm at the stage that outward appearance is second to mechanical condition now. It gets a hand wash at the local garage once a month or so and I don't think I've ever polished it (maybe once when I got it). Had it cleaned earlier and when I was getting out saw the flecks of metallic in the paint, not seen that for a while!

Wanted to get it fitted this week due to the car being a constant use in the week.

Just been out giving the inside a hoover over ready for a 700 mile trip away for work this week!
