Speed warning beep

Hi. I've had my Toyota xcite since last June but haven't done more than drive it to the nearest town a few times (475 miles on the clock) until today. Today we've been to visit my son 2 hours drive away and the car has been fine - other half did the driving. However on the way home it started to make a faint beeping sound every few minutes - we didn't notice on the way there as we had the radio on. He thinks it's something to do with a speed warning but there seemed no particular time or speed when it happened. Looked in the settings and couldn't find anything to turn it off or increase the speed if it is a warning signal. Anyone have any ideas please - there was nothing in the handbook.
