Hi

Just had new clutch in T27 2011 Plate with 65 K on clock. Clutch was not always engaging, Clutch judder on pulling of in first gear.

Garage showed me the clutch plate and release bearing. Friction material was only half worn but springs really noisy and no lubrication left hence why not engaging all the time.

Toyota dealer wanted 1250 quid !. I had Coventry Gearbox online which I used before. They fitted LUK clutch plate and slave cylinder for 45o quid ! wow what a difference

Hopefully it will now last for at least another 60K if I keep the car. Might get a Skoda Octivia Estate as bored of lack of torque in 1.8 engine.

I had my clutch replaced exactly a year ago to the day. Here is my post on the subject -

I had Valeo unit installed in place of the original Valeo clutch.
What a coincidence that the mileage was the same 65,000 mile.
Talking of lack of torque, I find my car not too bad. I am using the prefered oil grade 0W-20, and change it every year. The engine is responsive in most situations except hills where I need to rev to 3,000 rpm or more. I tend to cruise around town at 1,500 rpm or less. I use 5th gear a lot.
Now that a lot of cars are turbo charged (both petrol and diesel), they have the advantage of more torque at lower revs. The thing is, they need good care and servicing. Lack of servicing and oil changes on a turbo engined car will see expensive turbo repairs.

Don't get too bored, because with all the speed enforcement and traffic calming, you will be more concerned about driving smoothly.

Interesting that same mileage and same price to replace the clutch. I too had a LUK clutch plate fitted. I have owned the car 6 years from 8,000 miles. MY last 2 citroens which I got to over 100 K never had new clutches. The problem is I think my clutch got overheated a few times in heavy traffic. We heavily load the car with camping equipment or bikes. In normal dirving the 1.8 is fine but heavily laden I find the 1.8 engine a bit of a slug. Yes if you drop to 5th or 5th gear and rev to more than 3K revs you can get the required pull but it is hard work. I have driven the car to south of france with 2 bikes on family holiday on proper roof bars and still managed around 75 mph. Will be interesting with 4 bikes on this year. They all lightweight alu frames.

I know what you mean re turbo engines they would be more expensive and I imagine have dual mass fly wheels. Its swings and roundabouts really.

Glad I caught the clutch now though before driving to France in summer.

I not had a new clutch since a rover 200 with around 80 K on it or my first MK1 Ford fiesta that burnt a clutch at 45K but I had not had it long and it was going when I bought it. BAck then I swapped the clutch plate myself though for around 80 quid for the plate and a few hours in the garage with some mates !
