Hi,

I eventually bought the 3M kit, based on 3M being a reputable multi-national chemical engineering business. Still havent got round to trying it though!

If you Google "headlight cleaner" you will also see toothpaste works as well!

I doubt anything short of a respray will give you the protection you need. I had terrible lights with top protective coat ruined from the sun and did a respray myself, with the kit being some 20 euros or so. 6 months in, they still look the same as the day i did them. I can give you some helpful pointers if you want to do a respray, but i recommend this only if you have access to a polisher.

Yeah I've used the 3M kit and it's really good. Better than toothpaste from my experience, worth the money (I did it at the start of the year and headlights still look good!).

There are two issues here getting muddled up.

1. The cleaning
2. Preventing the cloudy (yellow) discolouration

The cleaning part can be done very easily and quickly (10 mins) with toothpaste, water and a toothbrush and you do not need specialist equipment. I did this today and it works a charm and prevents an MOT fail.

Preventing, however, is not easy and I am researching the options. There are the plastic trim (and tyre) protectants against UV so I may just use them.

I agree toothpaste does work, but it depends on severity, Mine was that yellow you couldn't hardly see through it, so the autogym won the day for me

I have this issue with my headlight lenses, they are going cloudy from the tops and it is now proceeding to come down the lens and could cause my car to fail its next MOT due to "a product on  the lens" as they seem to call it. I've heard that Meguiars PlastRX is pretty good for removing this oxidisation of the plastic lens, and hope to give it a try closer to the MOT date in March next year. They also do a kit with a buffing pad for fitting to a drill, but I think the bottle on its own with a cloth and plenty of buffing may do the job. http://www.meguiars.co.uk/shop/plast-rx

If you thinking about a niche product, it won't have the years and spend of the R&D of toothpaste. If you want something harsher then whitening toothpaste is an option, but you don't need it. Mine was yellow and failed MOT.

If you want to spend money find some protection after the clean... Perhaps some wax or plastic UV protection

Hi, I used G3 rubbing compound on the headlights, they came up like new and to date have not had to do them again, worked a treat.
