Auris Gearbox 1.4 D4D 6 speed 2010

My Auris has developed a problem today

At time 4th gear has been a little bit difficult to engage but now i cannot get in to 4th gear at all when car is on the move . It will go in when gearbox and engine are both on stop . Has any one any ideas what the fault could be and if a gearbox from a MK 2 Auris 1.4 D4D would fit in a MK1 Auris 1.4D4D

Sounds like synchro issue.  It's not uncommon fault in gearboxes.

I would first try changing the oil, and rechecking the gear lever cables. 

You can just replace the part and put the gearbox back on. Getting another one installed will just be a cat in the bag, as i suspect it will be used one, so it also might have, or will develop some faults.
