Did you get a black box in the glove compartment passenger side, or maybe with the wheel jack/tools in the boot. The black box should contain the "master" wheel nut unlocker. Just one wheel locker per wheel, 4 in total, and the master wheel nut unlocker.

I've checked everywhere even under the spare tyre, the key wasn't there when I took it for service so should I complain to them on how they checked the breaks?

You could always ask how did they check the pads without removing wheels, but dont be too surprised if they say they can check pad thickness without removing wheels, they may just about be able to do it.

The current £99 deal runs out end of August. I hope they renew it as had the wifes Auris Hyb done few weeks ago and mine is due for Intermediate service and MOT in December so hoping another campaign.

I suppose not bad to get a stamp in the book for £60-70 including oil and filter change. I'll do it next year if offer is on.

Just brought a Toyota Auris Hybrid T Spirit 2010, I was wondering a couple of things.

How can I update the sat nav for free?

Is there any problem if the car is a category S with Toyota warranty? or if I pay for the monthly fee for the service plans? and the battery health check?

Where did you buy from if you don't mind me asking? Dealer/auction/private seller?

Legally one cannot update the sat nav for free.

Is it really a criminal offence to update the software? Can you put google maps on it?

Thanks for your reply, I've booked it in for service & MOT for £99.

They said there was a airbag recall on it so they will do it at the same time. 🙂

As long as it's not Huddersfield Toyota you'll be OK. They still didn't have parts for around the last 1 year.

My wifes Auris 2010 Hybrid has just had the service and MOT done at the £99 price.  The service is an "Intermediate" (see your service book for what is done at a "I" service, and they change the engine oil and filter.  I payed for the filter and new sump plug/washer. I also specified 0W-20 oil and it looks like I was charged some extra for that - the "standard" oil could well be 5W-30 which is acceptable but I said if Toyotas first preference is 0W-20 then thats what I want in, especially as the car is not driven a lot of miles on normal journey and neither at high speed (probably 65 even on M-Way).

At the same time the airbag recall was doe. This is the passenger airbag, which has been a long time coming because it is a recall affecting millions of cars, not just Toyota but every manufacturer that used Takata as supplier of airbags.  Takata has since gone bankrupt and car manufactures have had to source from a different supplier.  This job can take up to 4 hours so factor that into your timing for the day.  If air filter is needed this will be extra, as 1ill spark plugs (change every 60k) and cabin filters ie pollen.

Could they not just use the old sump plug? Why did you pay for filter, that should be included? I though spark plugs were Iridium, good for 10 yrs or 100k miles, well mine are anyway. My cars over 10 yrs old and on 77k and still original spark plugs 🙂 Cabin filter - just wash it. See me post on the forum about how to do it professionally 😉

Toyota's preferred oil is 0W-20, but under block exemption they cannot insist their dealers use this. Some dealers use 5W-30, and with Essential Care servicing, as margins are tight with the current service offer used by the OP (£99 for a service and MOT), and as 0W-20 is more expensive, it is possible some dealers may charge the difference between the two oils if the owner requests 0W -20 is used.

Obviously this may only be this particular dealer's policy.

Is it just the Hybrid that is 0w-20 or can normal petrol Auris have it too. Some people advocate using thicker oil as mileage gets near 100k as seals get worn so more prone to leak with thinner oil.

Toyota "inspect" the pads which is nicely vague, probably don't need tyres to come off, or maybe they took you took your money as didn't really check your pads. Unless you can watch them at work, you've really no idea what they did or didn't do.

Can you put google maps on it? If it's a 2010 it is probably Touch & Go - a modern smartphone & Google Maps/Waze etc. will do a better job of nav.

Is it just the Hybrid that is 0w-20 or can normal petrol Auris have it too. iirc from 2010 Optimal Drive petrols 0W20 is "preferred" but 5W30 is acceptable.

With the Auris, Optimal Drive petrol non-hybrid engines - 1.33 and 1.6 - were introduced late 2008 and 0W-20 oil has been the preferred oil since then. Where 5W-30 is used, Toyota say this should be replaced at the next oil change by 0W-20.

Cabin air filters are cheap enough to replace (from around £6 plus for third party filters) rather than wash, dry and re-use.

"Unless you can watch them at work, you've really no idea what they did or didn't do." - applies equally as much to any garage, whether franchised dealer or independent.

I brought it from a private seller, someone who buys damaged cars and sells them for a good price.

There might be a new deal out, Is there any difference in the new Auris 2014? or is it just the shape?

The current service and MOT deal is for cars over five years old - so a 2014 Auris won't be eligible.
