Toyota echo using fuel too quickly help!

Hey there can anyone help me with this problem,I have a toyota echo and it's using alot of Fuel atm .Double what it used to .I think it's a 2002 or 2003 model .It's costing me alot when i do short trips around my local area.

It makes a slight clinking sound sometimes

Any help would be appreciated thanks!!

Moved to the Yaris club, as the Echo is related to the Yaris.

Which engine do you have and what fuel consumption is the car giving (ie. miles per gallon/ km per litre)?
