No refrigerant in A/C. Will this damage compressor?

Hi again.

Last post was concerning changing a A/C pipe that was leaking.

Am struggling to get off the leaking pipe without damaging the connecting pipes.

Haven't given up hope, however I will need to use the car daily. If I drive the car with no refrigerant in the A/C system, am I likely to damage the compressor as I believe that the refrigerant lubricants the compressor bearings.

Would appreciate any comments please.

Regards

Peter ling.

Firstly, with no refrigerant in the system, the compressor shouldn't even attempt to switch on as the low pressure switch will prevent it from doing so.

Secondly, turn off the A/C using the switch or control panel, just to doubly make sure the system is shut down.

Thank you David.

Appreciate your reply. Wise words!. Is it still ok to drive the car with the compressor disengaged but with no gas in the system?

I agree it'll do no harm.

Thanks David, Alan.

I just wish it was easier to replace. I think it's going to have to go to Mr T.
