Hi guys I have a Toyota Avensis 2012 2.0 d4d my tracking has been out and I gave it in to have tracking done
Now the tracking is done I picked my car up drove the car less than a minute and VCS light came on
So took it back to the garage who cleared the fault but as soon as I drive off again it came back on
The mechanic plugged his diagnostic machine in and it's coming up with steering angle sensor
My mechanic doesn't kno what to do with it as he says the he can't reset or re-callibrate the steering wheel sensor
Dose anyone kno how to reset or re-callibrate the steering wheel sensor or how to sort this problem out as me and my mechanic are stuck
Any help will be really appreciated

When you drove the car, did you drive it on a flat straight road, with the steering dead centre? There are a couple of ways of recalibrating the the steering angle sensor. One is to use the paperclip method linking terminal 4 and 12 and keeping the steering dead straight for about 10 seconds. The other way is to go to somebody with steering angle calibration setting on their diagnostic device. My once cheap Launch Creader actually has this feature, and instructs the user when to keep the steering straight or turned during the calibration process. Thje worst scenario is you take it to Toyota or specialist who can calibrate it for you.

With remove key for safety. Straighten steering wheel and don't touch. Use paperclip or wire to link terminals 4 and 12 as shown in above image. Turn key to IGN (Don't start the engine!). Wait for about 10 seconds, then switch off. Remove the link and check see if warning has been fixed.

Hello Ghani. The paper clip method should work to zero point the steering angle calibration. You can only try.

Hi Konrad

I also read that there are other tricks for the paperclip method like pushing brake pedal 8 times etc. is it needed?

Thank you 😊
