2012 Avensis Tourer panoramic roof

Morning all,

I am looking to upgrade my 2006 avensis workhorse and of course I could only replace it with a fresher model of the same car.

Saw a 2012 Tourer model in T-spirit guise that I really like the look of. Probably a question a lot of people don't think/care to ask......but does the panoramic roof open at all or does it just let light in (but not air)?

Thanks in advance!

It just lets light in. Having had one it is something that I could easily do without again - imo back seat passengers benefit more than front & of course you lose a little bit of headroom.

I wouldn't reject a car for it but I wouldn't pay more for it.

I personally would reject a car which had it myself due to heating up problems (I know you cover it but then why bother getting it)!  Also a hassle and (depending on insurance) expensive to replace on the rare occasions they crack - it does happen - but rarely.

Finally when I looked at new ones the extra weight of the roof meant that new ones came without a spare wheel in order to stay within the same emissions bracket as the version without the glass roof.  Decided I'd rather save money and have a spare wheel.  I must admit the rear passengers do get a good view when driving through hilly landscapes but...........

I’ve got the(non opening) panoramic roof on my 2012 tourer, big draw back is the lower headroom in the back, heads keep turning on the rear interior light. As the driver, it’s of no benefit unless you’re parked. No problem with heating or cooling the cabin, mine does have a proper spare wheel, just buried so deep in the boot floor that you have to totally empty the boot to get at it . The biggest fear though is that the glass roof is not covered by insurance. It’s a great talking point with the passengers. There’s other benefits to the T Spirit though, reversing camera & sensors, leather electric seats, and my favorite, adaptive bi xenon headlights

Check that your glass replacement section of your insurance policy covers breakage/chipping of the roof - not all insurers do cover panoramic roofs.

Have you had the car since new? If not, I would suspect that the original owner bought 1 for it (especially if it is a full-size rather than space-saver).

No , have it just over two years but at the time the dealer had three t spirits, all were 2012 and all had a spare wheel
