Reverse / reversing light switch location

My son has a 56 plate Aygo and the white reverse light is not working.
Ive switched bulbs around and confirmed its not the actual bulb itself.

I can see reverse light switched for sale (example link below) but I cannot see any reference as to where it fits or even if its a simple thing to do.

Is the switch simply under the gearstick gator and engages against the gear stick mechanism when in reverse or on the gearbox somewhere.

Anyone successfully replaced one?

Any advice most welcome.
Thanks

I have the same job to do!

The sensor is located on top of the gearbox, below the Battery tray. Bit of a pain to get at, but with the recent MOT changes, a must do now!

Thanks for the reply,

I'll see if I can take a look at the weekend and work out if its a job I can do myself - not really been under the bonnet since we got it apart from to check the fluid and oil levels.

I did see the new rules on the MOT included reverse lights but only on cars from 59 plate onwards and as mine is a 56, it should not fail.  However, I do feel nervous that my sons car doesn't have one so i'll get it done anyway!

Cheers.
