Yaris cut out on busy roads !

Hi I wonder if anyone could help before I take my car into the garage, I’d like to be armed with a bit of info if possible.

My yaris 2013 trend Battery light came on randomly about 6 months ago. I took it straight to the garage who tested the Battery and said it was fine, diagnosed an electrical fault due to a wire and suggested I take it to Toyota as it was still under warranty. I had it serviced by Toyota previous to this who didn’t flag up any problems. When I took it in to see about my Battery light they said the car had been in a crash prior to me buying it and there was nothing they could do under warranty. Two days later my doors seized up. And the last two days it has cut out briefly but come back straight away. Today it cut out on a busy roundabout with a few near misses ... really dangerous. After managing to get it off the road, it started up again.

I’m really worried to drive it again as I have a young family.

Any ideas ??? Thank you

How long ago did you buy it and was it from a dealer.

Hi. I bought it nearly 2 years ago and it was a private seller ... 😑 My son had just been born and ironically I wanted to save a bit of money going private instead of a dealer.

Moved to the Yaris club for more responses.

Think your only option would be to return to your garage or the dealer, and find out what the electrical problem actually is. For example whether the crash repair is the issue due to poor workmanship, cost cutting or similar. Then get it repaired, possibly by an auto electrician or your garage.

Hi again thanks for replying. I’ve just come back from my local garage who ran it through a diagnostic test and nothing was reported as faulty, the Battery and alternator are running as should be, he was at a loss as to why it would cut out. The Battery light is due to a faulty wire.

Does anyone else have any thoughts ?? I’m at a loss what to do now. I’m really wary of driving it again and especially with my toddler in the car.

Thanks in advance

Did it cut out and came back mid drive, or were you stopped and starting to drive?

Hi, the first thing I'd check would be the Battery earth lead. It might not be making a good earth on the chassis side, due to vehicle accident repair. This could show as an intermittent fault.
