Distance out of a full tank of fuel?

Hello all,

I have recently purchased a 14 plate 1.6l petrol Auris (non-hybrid) and I am very happy with my purchase but there is one niggle that I have….

How many miles do you guys get out of a tank of fuel?

I have just filled up and the counter said that we have driven just under 300 miles since last refill.

My wife uses the car during the week to commute to and from work and just bobbing about on the weekends. We live in the city so it is usual city traffic we drive in.

We try and change gears when the green gear change light comes on in the hope of getting the best fuel economy.

I think I may have been spoilt with the mpg's from my last car as it was a diesel (same fuel tank size) but I thought that I would check anyway in case there are potentially any issues with the car.

Thanks all 😊

So how many litres did you put in?

A full tank of fuel in the Auris is 40 litres.

With my 1.6 i get 47 mpg (6L per 100km) on rural roads, mixed with light traffic is 43 MPG (6.5L per 100km), and normal city traffic etc is around 38 mpg (7.5L per 100km), with 55L fuel tank capacity.

I think on your model, fuel tank capacity is 50L, you verified in owners manual?

If you tank it when it's on reserve, then you should put around 40-ish liters, as the rest is reserve.

According to the full owners manual, the fuel tank capacity for the second generation Auris non-hybrid is 50 litres, and the low fuel light will come on when there are approx 7.5 litres left. So if you're saying you put 40 litres into the tank and that had covered 300 miles, that equates to 34mpg.

Honest John Real mpg gives an indication of the fuel consumption owners have acheived - see https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/realmpg/toyota/auris-2013/16 - which for the Auris 1.6 manual is between 30mpg and 47.8mpg.

Thanks very much for the replies.

My car is fine then so it is clearly me being spoilt coming from a diesel car to a petrol.

Think we will walk to the shops more 😉

Cheers!
