Hello I was just wondering if it was worth my while buying such parts and having them fitted by an independent mechanic or would it be better to stick with toyota?

Depending what parts they are and whether or not the mechanic is a VAT registered garage, it may affect the new car warranty. If using an VAT remastered independent garage for servicing, it is down to the vehicle owner to prove any parts fitted which are involved with a later warranty claim, are of equal quality to OE parts.

If one has a Toyota extended warranty, servicing has to be done via the Toyota dealer network to retain the extended warranty.

Ok thanks although my warranty has run out it would seem prudent to stick with Toyota unless i intend to keep the car for the long term , in which case a VAT remastered independent garage might be the better option provided the parts he uses are of comparable quality

Once the car is five years old, one could take advantage of Toyota's Essential Care servicing scheme, which, for the Yaris, currently costs £110 for the silver (intermediate) service, and £190 for the gold (full) service. This reduces the servicing costs, uses genuine Toyota parts and, if you decide on a Toyota extended warranty, satisfies the servicing requirements for that.
