D4d Problem

Picked up a new D4D Avensis T3X on May 12th 2004 – everything was fine up to around a week ago when the power seemed to drop and economy (on the on board computer dropped to around 40mpg average) – It’s fitted with cruise control and when set at 60 – 70 mph the car seemed to be pulsing the accelerator – each time it pulsed a plume of black smoke was emitted – even with the cruise off it still was doing it.

It’s been to the dealer and I have been told that an injector may have been blocked but it’s OK now – a day later a friend followed me and told me the car was still kicking out smoke – not as much as before but still seemed odd on a new car.

It’s due back to the dealer but I’m really not impressed with it as it still seems to be low on power.

Any help would be appreciated

Hi there.

My Avensis D4D SW also does some Black smoke under hard accelaration (manual gears) but only for a second or so.

I also noticed that at top speed 120 mph or 200 km/h it made some white smoke that is bad  , but it seemed to be to much oil in the engine now it is OK

Toyota have sorted the problem - After a second trip to the garage they found that the Battery was leaking acid into the engine compartment - this had destroyed one of the multiplug connections to the turbo and had disconnected it from the engine - No Turbo - No Power

Great for a new car!

It was black smoke by the way
