Toyota Touch & Go 2 - anyone replaced it with an aftermarket unit?

I've just taken delivery of a 2015 Yaris Hybrid and although I've not really had any time to get to grips with it, I have to wonder if I'd be better served getting a third-party unit that supports CarPlay etc.

Is it possible to replace the head unit in the car with a third-party one, or is it too tightly integrated into the car's systems?

I saw a facia adapter that looks vaguely correct that allows for a double DIN head unit to be put in instead?

You should be able to I would think (the hybrid possibly has more displayed on it though than a diesel/petrol)  but you may pay more for going that way than simply bringing T2 with G up to date (3 years Mapcare & connected services at £199 is better value than 1 year at £119).

mapping will never be as up to date as Google maps etc. though.

It's more the speed of the system and the lack of CarPlay that annoys me - not enough to stop me buying the car, of course, but nevertheless.

I suppose I will lose the various energy usage displays though - need to play with it a bit more first I think.

do you know what version software & mapping it is currently running? It got a major update in 2016 iirc so if it is still on 2015 sw you are not comparing it to what it is currently like (although, yes it does have limitations).
