Anyone done it? Whats the best way? Is it possible to pull a feed from the autodim rearview mirror?

I did it. Dash cam came with a fuse piggy back adaptor. Ran power from the 12V socket fuse (which is located in the passenger footwell close to the wheel arch), up the A pillar behind the door seal to the roof, across the top of the plastic bit that covers the inside of the A pillar, and then across the ceiling tucked under the lip of the roof liner, and out near the mirror.

The advantage of this is it's quick, simple, no cutting wires, can handle the load, and is fused. To remove it all, all I have to do is pull.

It's switched with the ignition, but you could just as easily choose a different fuse location that is always on.

For the ground connection, I just found one of the big metal washer-nuts just to the side of the fuse box. One is screwed into metal. There was enough of the bolt part sticking out past the existing nut for me to add an extra nut. So I just crimped and soldered the end of my black wire to one of those ring connectors, slid it onto the remaining bit of bolt sticking out, and added an additional nut to hold it in place.

My dealer in Norwich fitted mine on both my previous Gen 3 and my current Gen 4.

The one in my Gen 4 needed a permanent and ignition live feed plus earth to switch between parking mode and driving mode.

Dingles or whatever they are called now?

How much did they charge?

SLM Toyota now.  I still deal with the same Service Manager and generally the same technician works on my car since 2002, despite this being the 4th company name in that time.

I had a simple RoadHawk in the Gen 3, and they price matched the manufacturer's subcontractors but also fitted an override switch on the centre console, which came to £45.84.

However, I had a RoadAngel Halo on the Gen 4, with front and rear cameras and an extra live feed for the parking mode, which came to a rather surprising £178.20 plus £9.20 for the switch.

I'm not unhappy though, because they did an excellent job and threw in a few other things despite the car being a factory order and before any of the drive-the-deal type people would quote for it.  Even gave me a small discount, free velour mats and a full tank.  Plus, they gave me more for my Gen 3 than WBAC, who initially quoted more but kept dropping the valuation during the 4 month wait.  Dingles (as they were at the time) honoured their original price.

Thanks all, for the sake of £45 i might get them to do it, I'm not as flexible as i once was, and i could lose more than that in wages if i put my back out twisting around trying to do it myself lol!
