Good evening,

Recently brought the enemy the above Toyota at 54k petrol, but have made a few observations ;

I have noticed the fan doesn’t always seem to switch - does anyone know if it is thermostatically controlled?

Also, when switching on first thing in the morning, the car shows a blue cool radiator symbol and then goes away. Is this normal?

Lastly, car AC isn’t blowing out cold or even cool air but the compressor seems to fine (no noise and belt seems intact). Any non-mechanic ideas for me to check or fix?

As always, thank you for your time 🙂

Which fan - engine or heater?  Engine fan should only come on when engine is hot enough or air con is on. Heater fan should be adjustable but will do its own thing if you have climate control and set it to auto.

A blue temperature light is common from cold on many cars and is normal.  It should go out after a couple/few miles.

The air con probably needs re-gassed.

Sorry for the lack of information, I wanted to know if the radiator fan is thermostatic as when the car ignition is switched on the radiator fan isn’t on yet?

I got the AC regassed yesterday but the car still blows out warm air, even if set to cold (with or without AC!). What’s the first thing you suggest I check? Compressor seems to be fine as isn’t making much noise!

Thank you

Just a few questions:

Who did the re-gassing?

Did they check to see if it was working before you paid and left?

How do you know the compressor is working?

Dexel tyres in Sheffield. They regassed it and didn’t check it afterwards! If it doesn’t work I have to take it back and be charged £45+Vat / hour for investigation. Is this unfair?

The compressor is not making any noises etc. What would you suggest me get checked first?

thank you

Ideally the system should have been checked for leaks before being re-gassed.

If they didn't check the system was working OK after re-gassing, then I would question their integrity. A charge for investigating faults is fairly common nowadays, but as they didn't check the system after re-gassing, I think it would be money wasted. You would do far better to either take it into an air con specialist.
