I wish to install a factory DAB W53848 (Panasonic)to replace the standard CD/WMA radio. all the basic functions work, connectors fit etc but the radio does not receive any signal. I have a standard aerial to the double aerial connector on the radio. Have tried both the inputs (one is marked 75ohm) but no stations are picked up, not even AM. do I need a booster, both inputs connected up (to one or two aerials0.  Even though this is a DAB radio does it still need a DAB modulator?? . Have seen a kit PZ473-00212-00 does this need to be acquired or is this for a standard FM radio

Many thanks in advance

can't help you with the rest but that kit is an add on DAB module/aerial/cables/fixings  to add DAB to a standard oem fit Touch head unit (it is a modular system - DAB & satnav are additional available modules that plug into the basic head unit)

Thanks for the tip. The radio I have is the W53848, looks the same as the standard but instead of AM/FM buttons has AM-DAB/FM buttons. its made by Panasonic.

Its a shame these car companies keep so much information hidden (wiring diagrams etc)

Have you tried browsing www.toyota-tech.eu

The W53848 is only DAB compatible ( via an accessory module ) it does not have built in DAB see : https://www.toyota-tech.eu/aimuploads/{06BCEFBF-83B4-A927-47B7-BFE1AF5A83B4}/001A_DAB_RHD_PZ473_00212_00_AIM_001_843_2.pdf

As for technical information see: www.toyota-tech.eu although consider the information provided is to repair your car as it left the factory it is not set up as a guide on how to modify your car beyond factory spec.

Many thanks, I had started to think that maybe the case, Ill have to start hunting down the kit. I want to keep the interior as stock as possible. I bet Im not the first to think by fitting that radio I would get DAB. At least I only paid £20 for it not the £80-£100 some are for sale on eBay for !

if you want a decent sound quality from the radio then use Fm

if its choice your after then Dab is the way to go for you,

a lot of Dab channels are broadcast in mono and having narrow bandwidth

for transmitting the radio data this restricts the audio quality.

flick between say smooth on Fm and then to smooth on Dab you can hear the difference.
