Hello!
Situation.... just bought a car, wanted to change the engine oil, was looking in service book what oil have been used previous, and moust of the times there was Castrol 5w40.   Soo I decided to  buy the same type of oil, I bought CASTROL 5W40 EDGE TURBO DIESEL TITANIUM FST.   But after the oil change the engine seams like make a lot more rattling noise! Did I made the wrong oil choice???

Hi ww,

Welcome, when you say rattle do you mean dieseling or engine rattle from say loose components due to wear? I wouldn't expect oil choice to make any substantial difference to the former. If it's the latter is it only on starting from cold or when the engine is warm? Ian

The following guide shows Toyota's preferred oils for various engines -

Coincidently another member recently used Edge Titanium, albeit in a petrol engine, and reported knocking/tapping -

Car have very big millage.  when made test drive, if i rememmber right it, engine was quiet. Now after oil change on low rpm maybe I hear chain. I can be so that this oil is too thick for chain tensioner??   On oil can there was not mentioned that this oil can use for toyota engines, but in shop told that will fit okey, also in service book there was like 10 oil changes with Castrol 5w40.

Did you replace the oil filter? I've read some bizarre stories of noises with cheap oil filters.

The mystery factor is down to the filter material used in a non-genuine filter. Different filter material could be too restrictive on the speed at which oil that can flow through it.
It's unlikely but the result, if this was the case, could be slight oil starvation. As I said it's very unlikely but not unheard of but it is also a very cheap option to try.

When I last changed my oil, after I started it back up, it seemed to make more noise, seemed to be idling rough... even weirder was once it was fully warmed up to temperature, the weirdest noise started. Confused about how on earth an oil change could have caused this, it turned out that I'd knocked a vacuum hose off whilst I was crawling around under the car. I plugged that hose back in and it was instantly back to normal.

Sorry that it's not really advice, more, food for thought.
