How to save 12v battery when not using Auris Hybrid for 2 months

I would like to know how to preserve the 12 volt battery charge when leaving an Auris Hybrid unused for 2 - 3 months whilst on an extended holiday. I have been advised to disconnect the Battery and wondered if a solar trickle charger would work as well.

It should do the job, but ensure that where you plug it in/attach it is connected to the Battery with the ignition off.

I would also check the Battery volts with it connected and not connected.  Should be higher when connected, of course, or it isn't working.

Thanks for the reply. I have found that the AA sell a solar charger that can connect to the Battery through the EOBD socket. Not sure where that is but I can ask at the garage. Has anyone tried this?
