Steering column Click

Hi,

Thank you for looking at my topic.

I have just purchased a Toyota Yaris Auto 2008 a few weeks ago. I didn’t really notice the issue until I was driving without the radio on.

I get just one click when turning left or right, it wil click near full lock, I can’t hear the issue from outside.

I did notice one of the foot kick panels under the steering slightly loose, I’m not sure if someone has attempted to repair this previous. The click is only once and not continuous.

Regards

At the foot of the column will be  a bolted on universal joint - which is probably fouling on some trim

Join the club of owners with clunking sound.

It's also present on other models. Clunking sound when driving slowly, usually heard while parking, or driving on parking lots.

It's not a safety issue, according to Toyota, the grease between the joint splines has dried up.

Spraying some oil in between the joints helps remedy the problem a bit, but the solution should be removing the screw, disconnecting the joints, cleaning old grease, apply lithium grease, reconnect. Use marker pen to mark the splines before disassembly, and also make sure the wheel does not move during that time. Tho you can drive with it perfectly fine.

Thank you both for replying, I will try to oil or greese the joints.
